• SLOWING THE ONSET OF CAFFEINE SO YOUR ENERGY BOOST IS PROLONGED AND SMOOTH.
I love Zest because it wakes me up unlike any other tea along with supplying me flavorful notes. I found Zest through a coworker. I was tired and they threw me a bag- best thing that has landed on my desk! Madison Jerome, 22
I drink Zest because it tastes great and I don't have the crash at the end after any of my activities. Marquis, 28
I made the switch to Zest from coffee during the shutdown, when working from home presented all kinds of new & unexpected distractions. I needed a natural, sustainable amount of energy & focus (without the jittery crash)! Now I start every day with either a hot cup of Apple Cinnamon or a glass of iced fridge tea (2 bags each of Pom Mojito + Superberry per pitcher - highly recommend 🤤). Abby Johnson, 36
FAQ
Which tea gives the most energy?
Zest caffeinated beverages provide up to 150mg of caffeine per serving, so it has a higher caffeine content than standard black tea. We achieve this by using additional tea extract for a plant-powered energizing effect.
What tea is good for focus and concentration?
Most caffeine tea types made from the Camellia sinensis plant provide L-Theanine, which is great for focus and concentration. This includes oolong tea, green and white teas, and more. For a herbal tea that's good for focus, try peppermint tea. The menthol in peppermint tea can help you tackle demanding cognitive tasks, reduce stress and keep fatigue at bay.
What is a good tea to wake you up?
Coffee may be a popular choice for a morning energy boost, but tea is far better. A smooth, comforting black tea (choose Zest for the highest caffeine black tea) is a great choice for the morning, as drinking green tea or any astringent tea type on an empty stomach can cause some nausea.
What tea is good for brain function?
Caffeinated tea made from the tea plant is a great source of antioxidants and amino acids, including L-Theanine which is great for brain function. Consuming a balanced diet with plenty of vitamins and minerals is also important, so you could also try high caffeine teas that contain a range of natural ingredients. Superberry Samba, for example, contains both tea leaves and fruits.
What tea is good for sleep?
Herbal teas with a calming effect are great for sleep. L-Theanine also improves sleep, however it's best to avoid consuming high caffeine teas before bed. Stick to a soothing tea with less caffeine, like green tea, or a herbal tea with no caffeine, like chamomile tea. Drinking chamomile tea can have a sedative-like effect.
Does tea give you more energy than coffee?
Coffee provides a lot of caffeine, there's approximately 96mg in a standard cup of coffee. Similarly, many energy drinks also contain caffeine and sugar to boost your energy levels. A cup of tea, however, contains both caffeine and more antioxidants to create a unique energy boost. If you replace your coffee with a Zest hot cup of tea, you can boost your energy consumption up to 150mg of caffeine per day.
Does oolong tea give you energy?
Oolong tea is a source of caffeine, just like shade grown green teas (used to make matcha tea), white tea, black teas, and any other infusion made from the same plant - Camellia sinensis. Oolong teas can be either lightly or darkly oxidized and their caffeine content varies just as widely.
Does herbal tea contain caffeine?
If you need a caffeine hit, try drinking black tea or one of our best teas for energy. The majority of herbal teas are caffeine-free tea, like chamomile tea or peppermint tea. They also come with a range of health benefits that are different to traditional, caffeinated tea... even if they taste similar, like some rooibos teas.

However, not all teas that are herbal are caffeine-free. There are exceptions to the rule! Read about yerba mate below.
How does tea create energy?
Caffeinated teas are made from infusing plant leaves into water - more specifically, traditional tea is made by infusing the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant in hot water. The plant naturally produces caffeine in its leaves, so infusing them into a cup results in a caffeinated beverage.

The amount of caffeine in your tea depends on how the plant was grown and its variety, as well as how you steep the leaves. Regardless, you can safely assume that more caffeine equals more energy for your day.

With the exception of Zest Tea (more on that above) most teas do not contain as much caffeine as coffee. We've even written a list of every tea type with their average caffeine content to demonstrate this.
Which tea types provide energy?
Any tea that's made from the leaves of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) will provide a caffeine intake. This includes:
• Green tea,
• Oolong tea,
• Black tea,
• Matcha (powdered fine green tea),
• White tea,
• Pu-erh tea.

Other caffeinated teas include yerba mate tea. The caffeine content varies between teas, for example there's a lot more caffeine in a cup of prepared matcha green tea compared to other green teas. Herbal brews, on the other hand, are naturally caffeine-free.
What are the health benefits of high caffeine teas?
The tea consumption doesn't just provide an energy boost! High caffeine tea comes with a range of health benefits, depending on the type of tea. For example, black tea may contain flavonoids that have anti-inflammatory properties for the central nervous system.
Is yerba mate tea caffeinated?
Yerba mate is a South American infusion that you may have heard of before in the context of high caffeine teas. The Argentinian yerba mate tree, which grows in South America, can be made into a grassy, slightly bitter tea that provides a source of caffeine.

In an eight ounce serving of yerba mate, there's 30mg to 70mg of caffeine, depending on the brewing method. This is more than standard tea but less than Zest Tea. Of course, as yerba mate isn't made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, it doesn't provide any L-Theanine and therefore mate drinkers miss out on the health benefits of tea.
