how it works
High caffeine tea without the jitters and crash? Here's how it works.
Green tea and black tea provide roughly 28mg and 47mg of caffeine per serving, respectively. Drinking tea provides only a moderate energy boost, so to turn up the juice, we use additional tea extract to increase the caffeine levels. Each serving provides up to 3x the caffeine of regular tea, and even more caffeine than a cup of coffee.
Tea leaves provide a range of nutrients and amino acids, among which is L-Theanine. This amino acid forms a synergistic relationship with caffeine, meaning that they interact to give you a smoother, calmer energy boost. L-Theanine slows the onset of caffeine, enhances feelings of calmness and focus, and can even stimulate creativity.
Along with tea, carbonated water, and B vitamins, we use a range of natural flavors to give our energy drinks a little extra Zest. Too much sugar will only cause a crash later in the day, so we focus on plant-based ingredients that are naturally sweet and keep the sugar content low. We even have 3 sugar-free flavors.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is tea an energy drink?
A tea energy drink is an absolutely amazing source of natural caffeine, amino acids, and antioxidants. As energy drinks go, tea is a refreshing and healthy way to fuel your body and mind. From white tea to black tea, different tea types have varying levels of caffeine - usually lower than coffee. To boost these levels and power up our tea with more energy, we add tea extract along with non-GMO, gluten-free ingredients to taste.
- How much caffeine is in Zest Tea?
The caffeine levels of Zest Tea energy drinks range from 120 to 150mg, depending on the tea flavor and your serving size. Most energy drinks also rely on artificial sweeteners and added sugars as well as caffeine to give your energy and mood a short-lived boost. Our teas contain more caffeine than coffee and only plant-based, non-GMO ingredients, for good energy to get you through the day.
- What is natural caffeine?
Caffeine is a natural compound created by several plant varieties, including the Camellia sinensis tea plant that we use to create our energy drink range. Naturally, green tea, white tea, oolong, and even black tea contain only moderate amounts of caffeine. So, to help them compete with coffee, Red Bull, and other energy drink beverages without artificial flavors and chemicals, we use additional green tea extract.
This allows us to create a natural energy tea that's sugar-free and provides a smooth energy boost without feeling jittery.
- How do Zest use green tea extract?
Our teas provide clean energy. It's plant-powered and free of added sugar and artificial sweeteners. To create our energy tea, we use green tea extract as a caffeine source. It bumps the levels of caffeine and L-Theanine in each cup to fuel your day with natural energy
- What tea helps with energy?
All caffeinated tea types will give you a boost of energy and concentration, thanks to the natural combination of caffeine and L-Theanine in tea leaves. Compared to when you drink a cup of coffee, tea creates a smoother energy boost that helps you feel great and stay calm!
Black tea is one of the most caffeinated energy drinks while green tea provides a slightly smaller energy boost.
- What's the difference between Zest green tea and black tea?
We have two types of high caffeine tea at Zest, green tea and black tea. We use South Indian flowery orange pekoe black tea leaves and Young Hyson Chinese green tea leaves in all our blends (sparkling and hot), along with organic ingredients to taste.
Our green tea is smooth, sweet and grassy while our black tea is rich, warming and soothing. Besides the flavor, there's also a difference in caffeine levels. Our black tea blends are around 150mg per serving while our green tea blends are around 135mg.
You can find the full ingredients list and caffeine levels for each of our beverages at ZestTea.com.
- What can I drink that's healthy for energy?
Caffeine is the holy-grail of energy boosts but a little too much can make you jittery. That's why we believe the healthiest drink for energy is tea. Thanks to natural amino acid L-Theanine, caffeine has a slower, smoother onset and enhances your focus with calmness.
Tea energy doesn't need extra sugar either, so you can tap into that buzz with zero calories consumed.
If you want to get specific with how much caffeine is deemed healthy, the FDA recommends no more than 400mg of caffeine per day. That's equivalent to roughly 2-3 cups or cans of a delicious blend from Zest Tea.
- Which brand of energy drink is the healthiest?
Okay, we don't want to brag and say that we are the healthiest energy drink brand ever, but we're definitely up there with the best of the best. The healthiest natural energy drinks are sugar-free, or close to it, and rely on plant-powered ways to create energy. While other energy drinks may fall back on synthetic ingredients, a bucket-load of sugar, supposed superfoods, and artificial flavorings, we have a more down-to-earth approach.
Tea leaves, non-GMO flavors, a few extra vitamins, and a touch of natural tea extract to boost those caffeine levels. Does it get much healthier than that?
